What Other Flowers Repel Slugs?

Homeowners and gardeners are always looking to make their gardens look beautiful. A way to beautify gardens is to grow flowers that add colour and make them look vibrant.

One can grow many flowers in their garden; however, unfortunately, flowers are prone to fall prey to slugs. A way to ensure that you keep flowers safe from any slug damage is to plant those that can repel slugs.

There are many flowers that can repel slugs, and some of these are:

Columbine

Columbine looks beautiful in the summer due to its big blooms. These flowers will add beauty to your garden and will last throughout summer as they repel slugs. Therefore, as you plant these, you do not have to worry about any slug damage. In addition, by planting columbine, you will minimize slugs in your garden.

However, planting columbine can be an issue because they are susceptible to leaf miners. However, the leaf miners will attack the leaves as opposed to flowers.

Geraniums

Geraniums are one of the hardy plants which repel slugs. These have beautiful flowers that can make any garden look lively. In addition to looking beautiful, geraniums are the perfect choice when it comes to keeping slugs out.

Geraniums are hairy plants, and the slugs cannot digest their leaves. You can keep them in your garden and enjoy the scenery. In addition, you can also use geraniums to create a barrier around your other plants so they do not get damaged.

Geraniums Deter Snails

Daylily

Another flower that repels slugs that you can grow in your garden is the daylily. These flowers come in many different species, each of them you can grow. Daylily has long, furry stems that slugs do not find easy to grasp onto and climb.

Therefore, slugs do not attack daylily, and they remain safe from damage.

Daylilies need at least six hours of sunlight during the day, and the PH level of the soil has to be six for the flowers to thrive.

Foxglove

Foxglove is another flower you can grow in your garden. These flowers are tall plants that also provide benefits to the garden. These flowers are effective in bringing pollinators to the gardens like bees.

The reason why foxglove repels slugs is that the leaves are full of toxins. To plant foxglove in your garden, you can choose a place that has moist soil and shade. When slugs attack the leaves, the toxin can poison them.

In addition to controlling the slugs, foxglove will add colour to your garden. The leaves of the plant are also great if you use them as a heart medicine. However, it would be best not to use too many leaves as they can be lethal in large quantities.

Japanese Anemone

Japanese anemone is another flower that repels slugs. However, this flower is not easy to take care of. Therefore, growing this flower may not be easy if you are a beginner and just getting into gardening.

These flowers are quite delicate and break easily. Therefore, if you have to repot this plant, you will have to be extremely careful. These flowers are colourful, and the leaves are green, adding a beautiful touch to your garden.

Jacob’s Ladder

Another flower that is safe from slugs is Jacob’s ladder. This flower is tall, with the stem having a pattern that makes it difficult for slugs to climb.

The leaves of the plant are safe from slugs. Jacob’s ladder is not only repellant to slugs but the flowers and foliage make gardens look beautiful.

Begonias

Begonias are pretty flowers that have over 1800 species. These flowers are great to plant if you are a beginner. These flowers are also resistant to slugs if it is not a large infestation.
